Two students, Ben Hernes and Anna Substad, from Bethel University in Minnesota are preparing to launch a new platform for people for intellectual and developmental disabilities to jump-start their careers.
RecruitABLE is an online job board is a space where people with I/DD can express their talent and expertise beyond a resume and cover letter. According to Disability Scoop, "In June, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported an employment-population ratio of 17.5 percent for persons with a disability, compared with an employment-population ratio for persons without a disability at 59.7 percent."
RecruitABLE aims to overcome the obstacles by offering employer to post jobs that a person with disabilities would thrive in. The jobs can run anywhere from restaurants to office work.
"In June, Hernes and Substad's pitch on RecruitABLE wont the 2020 Destination Medical Center Assistive Tech Challenge through the Mayo Clinic. With the $5,000 prize, they plan to license the software for RecruitABLE and build a team."
