Public Policy

The ODDC’s public policy work aligns with our mission to advance independence and inclusion for Oklahomans with developmental disabilities. Annually, we evaluate our advocacy priorities, given the realities of the state budget, emerging trends in disability supports and, certainly, what our constituents say matters to them. For the past few years our work at the State and US Capitols has centered on:

  • Financial security and independence
  • Protecting Medicaid
  • Passing Oklahoma's ABLE account bill
  • Meaningful employment with wages that sustain independence
  • Supports for families
  • Advocating for disability supports funding.
  • Educating legislators on appropriate school supports
  • Addressing Oklahoma's 7500+ Waiting List for the Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Waiver
  • Good lives planning and person-centered principles
  • Focusing on lifespan and points of transition
  • Parents with disabilities
  • Natural, non disability-specific and community-based supports
  • Alternatives to guardianship
  • Voting and advocacy education for adults with developmental disabilities and their families
